Back up and restore with a file

iPhone + Android

A backup file holds all your routes, workout plans, gear and scheduled runs in one file. Use it to move to a new phone, also from Android to iPhone or back.

Save a backup file

  1. Go to Profile → Settings → Backup & restore.
  2. Under Backup file, tap Save backup file.
  3. Choose where to save it, for example your Google Drive, iCloud Drive or Downloads.

The file is called something like runplanner-backup-2026-10-08.runplanner.

The backup file is not encrypted. Keep it somewhere private, and don't send it to people you wouldn't show your routes to.

Restore from a backup file

  1. On the new phone, install Runplanner and go to Profile → Settings → Backup & restore.
  2. Tap Restore from file and pick the file.
  3. Check what's in it and tap Restore.

Restoring only adds what's missing. Nothing on the phone is replaced or deleted, so it's safe to restore into an app you already use. Reminders for restored runs are set up again.

What's not in the backup

Your settings, name and profile photo. Set those again on the new phone.

Update Runplanner on this phone from the App Store or Google Play and try again.

Is there an automatic backup?

On Android, yes. See Automatic phone backup. On iPhone your routes are part of your normal iCloud backup.
