My location is jumpy or wrong

iPhone + Android

If your blue dot jumps around, lags behind or shows GPS signal lost, the cause is usually the GPS signal, not the app.

Quick fixes

  • Go outside and wait a moment. GPS needs a clear view of the sky. Indoors, between tall buildings, under thick trees and in tunnels, the position wanders.
  • Turn on precise location. On iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Runplanner → Precise Location. On Android: Settings → Location → App permissions → Runplanner → Use precise location.
  • Use High accuracy. In Profile → Settings → Map → Location accuracy, choose High. Balanced and Battery saver update less often, every 15 or 30 metres.
  • Turn off battery saver mode on your phone during a run. It can slow down location updates.

During navigation

Navigation always uses the most frequent updates, whatever the accuracy setting. A short Off route near tall buildings usually clears by itself. See Off route and finding your way back.

Still jumpy?

Restart your phone, or turn location off and on again. If one spot always goes wrong, the GPS is probably being reflected by buildings there.
