Road and surface breakdown

iPhone + Android

Is your route mostly paved, gravel or trail? Does it follow footpaths or main roads? The Road and surface card on every saved route tells you.

See the breakdown

Open a route from the Routes tab and scroll to Road and surface. Two coloured bars show the share of each type, with the percentage and the distance.

Road type:

  • Footpath: footways, pavements, pedestrian streets and steps.
  • Track: tracks and unpaved paths.
  • Cycleway: cycle paths.
  • Residential: residential and quiet service roads.
  • Main road: everything bigger.
  • Manual: parts you drew with snapping off.

Surface: Paved, Gravel, Trail and Manual.

The data comes from OpenStreetMap. Where a path has no surface recorded, footways and roads count as paved and tracks as trail.

Hand-drawn parts (snapping off) show as Manual, because the app doesn't know what's under them.
