Runplanner is built to keep your data on your phone. There's no account, and nothing about you is uploaded unless you choose to share.
What stays on your phone
Your routes, workout plans, gear and scheduled runs are stored on your phone and encrypted. Your name and profile details stay there too.
What leaves your phone, and why
To plan routes and show maps, the app has to ask online services for help. They get the places involved, not who you are:
- Routing: route points go to our own routing server. The app sends a random install number with it, not linked to you or your device, which resets when you reinstall.
- Maps (Mapbox), place search (Photon), street names (OpenStreetMap Nominatim), weather (Open-Meteo) and heights (terrain data on AWS) receive the area or points they need.
- Sharing: a share link stores that one route on our server for 90 days. Live location sharing is encrypted with a key only in the link.
- Pro waitlist: only the email address you type, used only to tell you when Pro launches.
- Backups: the Android phone backup and Runplanner Cloud are encrypted. A backup file you save yourself is not.
Analytics and crash reports
Off unless you switch them on. Turn Anonymous analytics on or off in Profile → Settings → Privacy. It also covers crash reports.
Permissions
- Location: to show you on the map and guide you. In the background only during navigation.
- Notifications: for run reminders.
- Camera: only to scan QR codes.
- Calendar (iPhone): only to add a run when you tap Add to calendar. Never to read events.
