Runplanner uses your location to show where you are on the map, to start a loop from your door and to guide you during navigation. You can plan routes without it.
Allow location access
The app asks during the welcome screens. If you skipped it:
- Open the Map tab and tap the locate button on the right.
- Tap Continue and allow location when your phone asks.
- If you said no before, Runplanner shows Open settings. Turn location on for Runplanner there and come back to the app.
If your phone's location is switched off altogether, the app offers Turn on.
Without location access the map opens where you last left it. You can still tap routes anywhere in the world, search places and make loops by tapping a starting point.
Location accuracy setting
In Profile → Settings → Map → Location accuracy you choose:
- High: your position updates every 8 metres. Best for navigation. This is the default.
- Balanced: updates every 15 metres.
- Battery saver: updates every 30 metres.
The GPS itself always runs at full accuracy. The setting only changes how often the app reacts to movement, which saves some battery.
Auto-center on location
Settings → Map → Auto-center on location (on by default) moves the map to you the first time your position is found while you plan a route. It does not keep the map locked to you; tap the locate button to center again.
Questions
Why does Runplanner need location in the background?
During turn-by-turn navigation the app keeps guiding you when the screen is off or you switch apps. In the background it only uses location while navigation is running, and Android shows a "Navigating" notification for as long as it does.
The map shows "GPS signal lost". What now?
Your phone lost its satellite fix, often indoors, between tall buildings or in a tunnel. Step outside or wait a moment; the app picks it up again by itself.
