Tell Runplanner how far you want to run and it draws a loop that starts and finishes at the same spot, along paths and quiet streets. You don't need to tap a single waypoint.
Make a loop
- Open the Map tab with an empty route and tap the green sparkle button Generate a route. The Route generator sheet opens on Roundtrip ("Back to the start").
- Set the Distance with the slider, from 1 to 50 km, or tap a preset: 5k, 10k, 15k, 21k or 42k (3, 5, 6.2 or 13.1 in miles).
- Optional: under Direction, pick which way the loop should head first, for example north towards the park. Any lets the app choose the best loop.
- Tap Choose starting point, then tap the map where you want to start and finish. It doesn't have to be where you are.
- Wait a moment while the app scouts a route. The loop appears with its distance, time and pace.
Not the loop you wanted?
Tap Regenerate route (the circular arrow) in the bottom panel. You get a different loop from the same start and distance. Undo takes you back to the previous one.
You can also change the loop by hand: the generator places waypoints along it (about every 500 m on short loops, every 1 to 5 km on long ones). Drag them like any other point, see Add, move and delete waypoints. When you're happy, tap Save.
Already have points on the map? The Generate a route button only shows on an empty route. Clear or save your route first. From the Routes tab, Make a loop asks before it replaces an unsaved route.
How close to the distance will it be?
Usually within a few percent. In areas with few paths, such as countryside with long roads and no side streets, the result can be further off. If it is more than 18% off, the app tells you, for example Route distance differs by 22% from target. Try a different starting point or another direction.
Questions
Can I make a loop that avoids busy roads or traffic lights?
Route preferences for terrain, hills, quiet streets, stairs and traffic lights are coming with Runplanner Pro. See Route preferences.
Why do I get "Could not generate a roundtrip in this area"?
The app couldn't find enough connected paths around your start, which happens on islands, in large fields or on a motorway junction. Move the start to a street or path and try again.
