Plan a running route on a computer or in your phone's browser at runplannerapp.com/route-planner. It's free, needs no account and works without the app. When the route is ready, send it to the app or your watch.
Draw a route
- Open the route planner. Search a place at the top of the map or press the locate button.
- Click the map to place your start, then keep clicking to add points. The line follows paths and streets.
- Drag a point to move it, or drag a small circle on the line to add a point there. Click a point and press Remove to delete it. Undo takes back any change.
- Read the Distance, Est. time at your pace and the Climb in the panel. On a phone, swipe the panel up for the elevation profile and the surface.
Let it draw a loop or an A-to-B route
Press Generate. On Loop, pick a start, a distance from 1 to 50 km and, if you like, a direction, then press Generate loop. On A to B, also pick a finish. Choose places with the search box, the locate button or Pick on map. Try another in the message at the bottom gives a different route. It uses the same generator as Make a loop in the app.
Save, share and export
- Save: give the route a name and press Save. Find it later under My routes, where you can also rename, duplicate or delete it.
- Share: makes a short link and a QR code. Scan the code with your phone to open the route in the Runplanner app. On a computer the link opens the planner.
- GPX: downloads the route for Garmin, Coros, Suunto, Apple Watch apps, Strava or komoot. See Export a route to your watch.
- Import GPX: opens a GPX file, or drop the file on the map. The line stays as it is in the file and gets points you can drag.
Routes you save on the website stay in that browser only. They aren't in the app and don't sync. Use Share or GPX to move a route to your phone.
What it shows
- Elevation: a profile with total climb and descent. Move along it to see the height at each point on the map. Bridges and tunnels are levelled out.
- Surface: how much is paved, gravel or trail, and how much is cycleway, footpath, track, residential street or main road.
Questions
Why does the planner show my last route when I open it again?
It keeps the route you were working on in your browser so you don't lose it. Press Start over in the message, or Clear.
Can I use route preferences or avoid traffic lights on the website?
No. Those are part of Runplanner Pro in the app. The website planner generates loops with the free settings.
