Map styles, dark map and north lock

iPhone + Android

Runplanner has four map styles: Standard, Dark, Satellite and Outdoors. Outdoors shows paths, trails and contour lines; Satellite helps you see what a path really looks like.

Change the map style

  1. On the Map tab, tap the layers button at the top right.
  2. Pick a style.

You can also change it in Profile → Settings → Map → Map style.

Auto dark map

With Auto dark map on (the default), the Standard map turns into the Dark map when your phone is in dark mode. Satellite and Outdoors stay as they are.

Picking Standard or Dark yourself switches Auto dark map off, so your choice sticks. Switch it back on in the map style sheet or in Settings.

Lock map north

Settings → Map → Lock map north stops the map from rotating while you plan, so north is always up. It's off by default.

During navigation the map tilts and turns with you so the road ahead is at the top. On the route details screen, a short 3D fly-around shows the whole route, with 3D buildings on the Standard style.
