The route won't follow the path

iPhone + Android

Normally the route follows paths between your taps. If you see straight lines instead, one of these is usually the reason.

Snapping is switched off

A grey line icon on the right of the map means Free-draw (no snapping). Tap it so it turns green (Snapping on). Then undo the straight stretches and tap them again. See Snap to paths, or draw straight lines.

"Could not snap part of the route"

The app couldn't find a path for that stretch and drew a straight line instead. Common causes:

  • No internet, or a weak signal. Route planning happens online. Try again with a better connection: drag the point a little or undo and tap again.
  • The point is off the path network, for example in the middle of a lake, a field, a railway yard or a private area. Tap closer to a path or street.
  • The path isn't on the map. Runplanner uses OpenStreetMap. A new or informal path may be missing; use free-draw for that bit.

"Waypoint too far away"

Each stretch can be at most 50 km in a straight line. Add a point in between.

The route takes a strange detour

The route follows paths a runner can use, and avoids motorways and some busy roads. If it goes around something, there may be no mapped way through, such as a fence, a private road or a missing footbridge. Add a waypoint on the side you want, or switch snapping off for that stretch.

Fix the map for everyone: missing paths can be added on openstreetmap.org. Runplanner picks up changes after a while.
