Differences between iPhone and Android

iPhone + Android

Runplanner works the same on iPhone and Android for almost everything: planning, loops, navigation, scheduling, sharing and GPX. A few features depend on what each phone allows.

Android only

  • Import runs from Health Connect. See Import runs from Health Connect.
  • Weather briefing before a scheduled run. iPhone gets the run reminder only.
  • Automatic phone backup with a Welcome back restore on a new phone. iPhone uses your normal iCloud backup.
  • In-app update prompt when a new version is out.
  • Widgets: Quick start and Saved routes.

iPhone only

  • Live Activity: the next turn on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island while you navigate. See Live Activity on iPhone.
  • Lock screen widgets: Countdown, Start time, Runs this week and Plan a run.

Works a little differently

  • Opening a GPX file in another app: Android shows a list of apps, iPhone opens the share sheet.
  • Moving a waypoint: on both, press and hold the point, then drag. On Android, hold still for about half a second first.
  • Navigation in the background: Android shows a Navigating notification, iPhone shows the blue location indicator.

Requirements

iPhone with iOS 15.5 or later. Android 8.0 or later. Both are free in the App Store and on Google Play.
