Navigation stops when the screen is off

iPhone + Android

Runplanner keeps navigating when your screen is off or you switch apps. If directions stop, check these settings.

Android

  1. Allow location while using the app for Runplanner. That's enough; navigation runs as a foreground service with a Navigating notification.
  2. Don't swipe the notification or the app away during your run.
  3. Turn off battery optimisation for Runplanner: in your phone's battery or app settings, set Runplanner to Unrestricted. Some brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei) close apps in the background otherwise.
  4. Allow notifications, so the Navigating notification can show.

iPhone

  1. Set location for Runplanner to While Using the App or Always, with Precise Location on.
  2. Low Power Mode can slow down location updates; turn it off for long runs.
  3. The blue indicator at the top shows Runplanner is using your location in the background.

If the app was closed during a run, open it again within three hours. It asks Continue your run? and picks up where you were.
