Import a GPX file

iPhone + Android

Have a route from Garmin Connect, Strava, komoot, a race website or a friend? Import the GPX file and it becomes a Runplanner route you can see, schedule and navigate.

Import from inside the app

  1. Open the Routes tab and tap +.
  2. Tap Import GPX and pick the file.
  3. Check the Preview with the map, distance and number of waypoints.
  4. Tap Import route.

Open a GPX file with Runplanner

Tap a .gpx file in your email, files app or downloads and choose Runplanner under "Open with" (Android) or in the share sheet (iPhone). The same preview opens. After importing, the app jumps to the Routes tab, and a number on the tab shows new imports.

What gets imported

  • The line exactly as it is in the file. Runplanner doesn't re-plan it, so it matches the original.
  • Tracks come first; if the file has none, its route; otherwise its waypoints.
  • The name from the file. Rename it later with Edit route.
  • Heights, when every point in the file has one.

The time is worked out from your default pace. Imported routes don't have the road and surface breakdown.

Only GPX files work. KML, FIT and TCX files aren't supported; most apps can export GPX instead.

Questions

Why does my imported route look jagged?

A recorded track follows your GPS, including its wobbles. That's how it was in the file. You can edit it like any route afterwards.
